DENVER, Colo. -
The No. 16 Metro State volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Colorado Christian, 25-13, 25-17, 25-9 on Friday evening at the Auraria Event Center.  Metro State moved to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CCU dropped to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the RMAC.  This is the best start to a season for the Roadrunners since opening 1993 with 11 wins in their first 12 matches.

Bri Morley (Parker, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) led Metro State with 11 kills, hitting .417 (11-1-24).  Emily Greenhalgh (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) pounded out eight kills, while Anna Mapes (Chaska, Minn./Chaska H.S.) and Lisa Jones (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East H.S.) each had five.  Mapes hit a perfect 1.000 (5-0-5) on the evening and added three blocks.

Gabe Curtis (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) dished out 30 set assists, while Amy Watanabe (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.) led the defense with 10 digs.

The Roadrunners held CCU to a -.065 (20-57-77) hitting percentage, the third time this season they have held an opponent under .000.  The school record is -.090 (11-15-43) vs. Air Force in 1986.  On Friday, Metro State hit .382 (37-8-76), with the eight attack errors the second-lowest this season after recording just four in a season-opening victory against Millersville (Pa.).

Metro State opened the match on fire, hitting .500 (15-3-24) in the opening set, while holding CCU to -.053 (5-6-19).  The Roadrunners led 12-9, before scoring the next five points to set the tone for the evening.

The second set was more even with the Roadrunners hitting .278 (14-4-36) and CCU hitting its only positive hitting percentage at .056 (10-8-36).  After trailing 15-7, the Cougars ran off five of the next six points to cut Metro State's lead to 16-12.

The final set was Metro State's best defensively, as it held CCU to a -.273 (5-11-22) hitting percentage.  The Roadrunners also had five of their six aces in the third set with two each coming from Curtis and Morley.  Metro State committed just one hitting error in the final set to hit .438 (8-1-16).

Metro State will host UC-Colorado Springs at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Auraria Event Center.
