Roadrunners Fall Short in Exhibition at Air Force

The Metro State women's basketball team fell 58-55 at Air Force on Friday evening in exhibition play.  It was the team's only exhibition this season and dropped the Roadrunners to 3-2 against NCAA Division I teams in exhibition play over the past five seasons.

Jasmine Cervantes (Johnstown, Colo./Berthoud H.S.) led the Roadrunners with 11 points and added nine rebounds and Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) scored 10.  Tawny Drexler (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.) led both teams with 10 rebounds and scored eight points.  Cassondra Bratton (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) chipped in nine points, hitting 3-for-4 from the floor.  Emily Wood (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.) had a team-high five assists with six points.

The Roadrunners overcame a 17-point second-half deficit to tie the game at 53-53 with under two minutes left.

Metro State shot just 35.7 percent in the game, while AFA shot 43.6 percent.  The Roadrunners outrebounded the Falcons 41-32, but committed 22 turnovers.

Metro State opens the season next Saturday at Montana State-Billings.
