DENVER, Colo. -
Metro State's Brittany Moss (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) tied the school record with 11 strikeouts in game two as the Roadrunners swept Regis University on Saturday, winning game one 2-1 and game two 3-2.  It was a battle between two of the preseason favorites in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  Metro State, ranked No. 16 in the preseason NFCA top-25 poll, improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the RMAC, while Regis fell to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the RMAC.

Game One
RMAC Preseason Pitcher of the Year Christie Robinson (Clinton, Wash./South Whidbey H.S.) tossed a gem in her first appearance of the season after battling an illness for the past month, holding the Rangers' offense to just five hits and one walk as she struck out seven in seven innings.

Metro State's offense provided little support early.  The Roadrunners stranded runners on second and third with one out in the second inning and left a runners on second base with one out again in the third and fifth innings.

Meanwhile, Alyssa Beskid put Regis in front 1-0 in the top of the fourth with a solo home run to right-center, her third of the season.

The Rangers loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth, but Robinson escaped by getting pitcher Nikki Haberkorn to ground out to second.  The Roadrunners finally got to Haberkorn in the bottom of the sixth as Sarah Rusch (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake H.S.) and Tara Mickelson (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) led off the inning with back-to-back home runs to center field.  Danni Hedstrom (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins H.S.) later doubled in the inning, but was stranded.

The two runs were all Robinson needed.  Regis put the tying run in scoring position with one out in the top of the seventh, but Robinson got a pair of ground balls to end the game.

Game Two
The second game started much better for Metro State.  After Moss pitched a 1-2-3 top of the first, Amber Roundtree (Lakewood, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) led off with a single to left and she later scored on a single to right by Mickelson.

Jennessa Tesone (Longmont, Colo./Niwot H.S.) brought Kellie Nishikida (Pearl City, Hawaii/Pearl City H.S.) in with a double down the left field line in the third to put Metro State in front 2-0.  Roundtree drove in Hedstrom in the fourth for the team's third run of the game.

On the other side, Moss found her groove, facing the minimum through four innings, surrendering just a hit batter and a walk, both of which were erased by a caught stealing and a double play.

After Beskid led off the fifth with a line drive single to center, Mo McDaniel blasted a one-out, two-run home run to right-center to bring the Rangers within one.  Moss escaped the fifth with a ground out and a strikeout.

The sophomore righthander got stronger in the sixth and seventh innings, fanning two in the sixth and striking out the side in the seventh to close the game.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday for a doubleheader at Metro State at noon.  The games were originally scheduled to be played at Regis, but poor field conditions moved the games to Metro State.  However, Regis will remain the home team on Sunday.
