DENVER, Colo. -
Third baseman Everett Altman (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh of game two to give Metro State a split against Colorado State-Pueblo on opening day for the Roadrunners.  Metro State fell 11-8 in game one, but rebounded with a 9-8 win in game two.  The Roadrunners blew seventh-inning leads in both games.

Altman, who started just eight games last season, went 4-for-6 in the two games and delivered three runs batted in.

Game One
Metro State jumped out to an 8-1 lead, but the bullpen could not hold.  After allowing a run in the top of the first, starter Ted Jamison (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain H.S.) settled down for a strong outing.  The senior righthander went 5.1 innings and allowed three earned runs, while allowing just five hits and striking out three.

The Roadrunners tied the game in the bottom of the first when Bradshaw Perry (Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) drew a bases loaded walk that plated Chris Redding (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) with one out.  But a double play ended the inning one batter later.

Jamison responded with four shutout innings, allowing the offense to take control.  Metro State sent nine batters to the plate in the second inning, scoring four times to take a 5-1 lead.  Cody Henry (Thornton, Colo./Legacy H.S.) led off the inning with a towering home run to left in his first plate appearance as a Roadrunner.  Mike Coffey (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.) later added an RBI single and Perry came through with a two-run single.

After a 1-2-3 third inning, Metro State scored three more in the fourth.  Redding and Coffey led off with back-to-back singles and Jordan Stouffer (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) added an RBI single two batters later.  David Fox (Lakewood, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) closed the scoring with a triple to right.

However, the offense fizzled in the final three innings as the Roadrunners managed just one base hit.

Jamison got a strikeout to start the top of the sixth, but surrendered a one-out home run to Zach Hoffman.  Following an error, Jamison walked his final batter of the game and gave way to freshman Taylor Huyett (Broomfield, Colo./Legacy H.S.).  The lefthander was unable to retire any of the three batters he faced as CSUP scored five times in the sixth to cut the lead to 8-6.

Jon Proesl's three-run double in the seventh game the ThunderWolves the 11-8 lead that resulted in the final score.  Metro State loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning, but closer Stephen Leddy induced a pop out and a fly out to deep right to end the game.

Redding led the way with three hits, while Coffey and Fox each had two.

Game Two
The Roadrunners erased an early 5-2 deficit to rally in the seventh inning for their first walk-off win since defeating No. 2 Mesa State on a walk-off home run by Kevin Coughlin (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.) on April 19 last season.

After an error spotted the ThunderWolves three runs in the top of the first, Metro State got on the board with a one-out triple by Coffey.  He came home on a sacrifice fly to center by Zach Krueger (Holyoke, Colo./Holyoke H.S.).

Each team scored single runs in the second and third innings.

The Roadrunners were able to add another run in the fourth after a double to left-center by Altman.  The bats finally came alive in succession in the fifth after two outs.  Stouffer walked before a two-run home run by Perry put Metro State in front 6-5.  Fox followed with his second double of the game to right-center and scored after a pair of wild pitches.

Each team added one in the sixth to make the score 8-6 Metro State.  But the ThunderWolves pushed across two runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game.

Stouffer led off the bottom of the inning by reaching on an error.  Another error two batters later put runners on second and third.  With two outs, Altman ripped a one-hopper to the left-center fence to end the game as pinch runner Eric Lopez (Hayden, Ariz./Hayden H.S.) came across.

Coffey and Altman each had big games at the plate with three hits each.  Fox and freshman David Kaplan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty H.S.) each added a pair of hits.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday for a doubleheader in Pueblo.
