PUEBLO, Colo. -
Metro State split a doubleheader against Colorado Mines on Sunday in Pueblo, Colo., winning game one 8-5, before dropping game two 5-1.  The Roadrunners are now 10-10 overall and 7-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Orediggers are 6-10 overall and 3-8 in the RMAC.

Game One
Metro State got its bats going early, leading 7-1 after three innings and held on for the victory with strong outings by Ted Jamison (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain H.S.) and reliever Ross MacDonald (Las Vegas, Nev./Bonanza H.S.).

Metro State scored two in the bottom of the first.  Chris Redding (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) led off with a walk and stole second base.  After an out, David Fox (Lakewood, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) drove in Redding with a base hit to left.  Fox also stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher.  He scored on a single to left by Jordan Stouffer (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.).

The Roadrunners added two more as Tommy Frikken (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) brought home David Kaplan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty H.S.) with a single and Redding hit a sacrifice fly to score Cody Henry (Thornton, Colo./Legacy H.S.).

After CSM put up one in the top of the third, Fox led off the bottom of the inning with a triple to right field and scored on a single by Kaplan.  Metro State added two more in the inning as Frikken and Redding were hit by pitches with the bases loaded.

Metro State scored its final run of the nine inning game in the fourth after Fox led off with a double and came home on a single by Mike Coffey (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.).

Fox led the offense with three hits and three runs scored.  Stouffer and Kaplan each had two hits.

Jamison threw six innings, allowing two earned runs with five strikeouts.  He pitched around eight hits and six walks.  MacDonald came on in relief and pitched two scoreless innings, before allowing two runs in the ninth for a three-inning save.

Game Two
The Roadrunners failed to put together timely hits, grounding into three double plays in the seven inning game.  Trailing 4-0, they pushed across their only run in the sixth inning when Redding scored on a single to left by Fox.  The inning was again erased on a double play.

Metro State loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with two outs on a hit batter and two walks, but could not come up with a base hit.

Zach Krueger (Holyoke, Colo./Holyoke H.S.) led Metro State with two hits.  Jake Draeger (Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis H.S.) pitched 6.1 innings, allowing all five runs, but just three earned.  Sean Walter (Wiggins, Colo./Wiggins H.S.) got the final two outs in scoreless fashion.

Metro State is waiting to find out if it will play a midweek game this week.  Currently, the next game on the schedule is at Regis on Friday at 3 p.m.
