DENVER, Colo. -
The No. 8 Metro State softball team swept Fort Lewis in a rare tripleheader on Sunday at home, winning 7-0, 9-2 and 12-4 (5 inn.). The Roadrunners improved to 21-2 overall and 18-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while FLC fell to 10-13 overall and 10-9 in the RMAC.

Amber Roundtree (Lakewood, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) was a near impossible out on Sunday, combining to go 7-for-10 in the three games with five runs, five runs batted in and two home runs.

Game One
Christie Robinson (Clinton, Wash./South Whidbey H.S.) was stellar in the circle, throwing a complete game shutout, scattering seven hits over seven innings. Roundtree led the offense with a 3-for-3 performance and drove in three runs. Jessica Haab (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek H.S.) and Jennessa Tesone (Longmont, Colo./Niwot H.S.) each had two hits.

After a perfect top half of the first by Robinson, Metro State loaded the bases with nobody out as Roundtree, Kellie Nishikida (Pearl City, Hawaii/Pearl City H.S.) and Sarah Rusch (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake H.S.) all walked. But Skyhawks righthander Stephanie Janes settled down to escape the jam with two strikeouts and a foul out to right.

The Roadrunners finally got on the board in the second when Roundtree drove in Danni Hedstrom (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins H.S.) with a single down the right field line.

Mickelson pushed the lead to 2-0 with a home run to center to lead off the third.

Metro State broke the game open in the fifth with three unearned runs. Haab hit a one-out single and then scored on a fielding error by the FLC third baseman two batters later. Roundtree later delivered a bases loaded, two-run double to right-center that scored Tesone and Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.).

The Roadrunners added two more in the sixth on a two-run home run by Haab.

Game Two
Metro State's offense got off to a better start in game two as the first four batters reached. Roundtree reached on an error to start the game and Nishikida, Rusch and Mickelson each followed with singles. Roundtree stole home on a double steal and Nishikida scored on Mickelson base hit. Rusch later came home on a single by Tesone as Metro State led 3-0 after the first.

FLC cut the lead to 3-2 on a two-run blast by Janes in the top of the second.

Nishikida came home in the third inning on an illegal pitch after leading off with a walk as Metro State led 4-2.

Rusch belted a three-run home run to left-center in the fourth as the Roadrunners stretched to lead to five.

Hedstrom rounded out the scoring with a two-run homer to left-center in the fifth, her first home run of the season.

Brittany Moss (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) earned the victory, throwing all seven innings and allowing just five hits, while striking out two. Mickelson each had three hits and Rusch had a pair to lead the offense.

Game Three

The Roadrunners drew seven walks and had six hits as they quickly put the Skyhawks away in a 12-4 win in five innings.

Ashley Hibbs gave FLC a brief 1-0 lead with a solo home run with two outs in the top of the first. But Roundtree quickly took that lead away, hitting the first pitch of the game from Janes over the fence down the left field line to tie the game.

Janes walked the next two batters and after a pop out, hit Tesone to load the bases. After an infield fly pop out, Maul ripped a bases clearing double into the left-center alley as Metro State led 4-1 after the first.

Natalie Janes hit one-out solo home run in the second, but again Metro State responded with a four spot in the bottom of the inning. Roundtree hit a one-out solo home run, a near mirror image of her first inning blast. Tesone later hit a three-run home run, driving in Nishikida and Rusch to push the lead to 8-2.

Fort Lewis scored an unearned run in the top of the fourth. But once again, Metro State scored four in the bottom of the inning. Mickelson pushed home Roundtree with a no-out, bases loaded walk. Nishikida came home on a fielder's choice by Tesone, but all four runners were safe on the play as the third baseman booted the ball to keep the bases loaded with nobody out. Rusch came home on a sacrifice fly by Haab and Mickelson rounded out the scoring, coming home on a wild pitch.

Julie Diehl earned the win, allowing three earned runs in five innings after giving up one in the fifth. Roundtree again led the team with three hits.

Metro State will travel to Colorado Mines on Friday and Saturday.
