School, NCAA Records Fall in Rout of CCU

Box Score

DENVER, Colo. -
Just five days after allowing the most runs in a game in school history, Metro State scored the most runs in a game, winning 34-12 against Colorado Christian on Friday at Metro State.  The previous record for runs scored in a game was 32 runs against Cal Poly Pomona in a 32-13 win on March 26, 1987.  The Roadrunners also set new records for hits (32), runs batted in (32), total bases (56) and doubles (12).  The 12 doubles were the third-most in a game in NCAA Division II history.

The two teams combined to set a Division II record for doubles in a game, combining for 18, and also set the record for total bases between two teams, combining for 81.  The 48 hits that CCU and Metro State combined for were the fifth-most in a game in Division II history.

Metro State was coming off a 33-7 thrashing on the road by Mesa State on Sunday.

With Friday's victory, the Roadrunners improved to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  CCU dropped to 6-10 overall and 0-4 in the RMAC.

Jordan Stouffer (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) broke the school's single game record with six runs scored.  He batted 2-for-3 with three RBI, three walks, a home run and a double.  Everett Altman (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) tied the Metro State single game runs batted in record with eight on Friday as he went 3-for-5 with two home runs and a double.

Three Roadrunners had four hits each as Bradshaw Perry (Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) went 4-for-6 with six RBI, four runs, a home run and a double.  Zach Krueger (Holyoke, Colo./Holyoke H.S.) had a 4-for-5 day at the plate, scoring three times and driving in three more with a double.  Freshman David Kaplan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty H.S.) was a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBI and two walks.

Chris Redding (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) tied a school record for doubles in a game--exactly one week after David Fox (Lakewood, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) did so--ripping three doubles in the contest.  On Friday, Fox went 3-for-5 with five runs scored and one double.

Eight of Metro State's nine starters had at least two hits and six reserves had at least one hit.  Just four of the 18 players with a plate appearance for the Roadrunners did not record a hit.

Metro State starter Ted Jamison (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain H.S.) earned the win, tossing six innings and allowing three runs while striking out six.  CCU starter Jake Logan suffered the loss, allowing 13 hits and 14 runs (13 earned) in 2.1 innings.

Colorado Christian had 16 hits in the game, led by Chad Meske's 3-for-6 day.  Michael Cavazos went 2-for-6 with a double and a home run.

The Roadrunners took a 3-0 lead after the bottom of the first with two outs on a two-run home run by Stouffer and a two-out single by Kaplan.  They added seven in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Fox and a grand slam by Perry.

After CCU got on the board making it a 10-1 game, the Roadrunners responded with seven more in the third inning as Altman drilled a three-run home run, Cody Henry (Thornton, Colo./Legacy H.S.) had a two-run double and Krueger connected for an RBI double.

The Cougars added two more in the fourth, though Metro State answered with three in the bottom of the inning on back-to-back run scoring doubles by Stouffer and Perry and an RBI single to right-center by Kaplan.

The Roadrunners took a 29-3 lead after the sixth inning as they scored four more in the fifth and five in the sixth, with three runs coming in Altman's second three-run homer of the game.

Each team scored twice in the seventh and three times in the eighth.  CCU pushed four across in the top of the ninth to cut the final deficit to 34-12.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
