KEARNEY, Neb. -
The Metro State baseball team split a doubleheader at Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday, winning game one 8-3, before falling 6-1 in game two.  The Roadrunners are now 16-16 overall and 13-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Lopers are 22-15 overall and 11-11 in the RMAC.

Game One
Chris Redding (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) went 3-for-3 and Metro State got a solid pitching performance from Jake Draeger (Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis H.S.) and reliever Tyler Hensen (Lakewood, Colo./Bishop Machebeuf H.S.) in the 8-3 victory.  Redding scored three times and drove in two runs, while belting his third home run of the season and stealing a base.  Draeger lasted 5.1 innings and scattered five hits with six strikeouts, pitching around six walks.  Hensen pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Redding scored the first run of the game after opening with a base hit and scoring on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Stouffer (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.).

Redding led off the third with a home run to left to push the lead to 2-0.  The Roadrunners put five on the board in the fourth, two scoring on RBI singles by Redding and David Fox (Lakewood, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.).

Metro State took an 8-0 lead in the top of the fifth when Eric Lopez (Hayden, Ariz./Hayden H.S.) scored on a base hit by Jacob Trimble (Danville, Ill./Schlarman H.S.).

The Lopers finally got to Draeger in the fifth with one run and two in the sixth to force him out of the game with one out.  Hensen retired both batters he faced in the sixth to end the threat.

Game Two
Cody Henry (Thornton, Colo./Legacy H.S.) scored in the top of the second to put Metro State up 1-0 on a ground out by Trimble, but the Lopers scored five in the bottom of the third to take control of the game.  UNK added an unearned run in the fifth.

Redding again led Metro State with two hits.  Nate Van Bibber (Littleton, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs in 4.1 innings.  Tony Weber (Elizabeth, Colo./Elizabeth H.S.) pitched 1.2 perfect innings of relief and struck out two.

The two teams will play a nine-inning game on Sunday beginning at noon.
