Game 2 Box Score

GOLDEN, Colo. -
The No. 10 Metro State softball team drilled Colorado Mines 10-0 in six innings in game one on Saturday on the road, but fell 3-2 in game two.  The Roadrunners are now 24-3 overall and 21-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Orediggers are 14-15 overall and 10-10 in the RMAC.

Game One
The Roadrunners once again dominated their former teammate, knocking starter Libby Balogh out of the game in the fourth inning after six runs.  Once again, Christie Robinson (Clinton, Wash./South Whidbey H.S.) was dominant in the pitcher's circle for Metro State, scattering six hits in a six-inning shutout, while striking out four.  She did not walk a batter.

Metro State put two runs on the board in the top of the first after Amber Roundtree (Lakewood, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) was hit by a pitch to start the game and Kellie Nishikida (Pearl City, Hawaii/Pearl City H.S.) ripped an 0-2 pitch for an RBI double to left-center.  Nishikdia scored one batter later on a two-base error by the CSM leftfielder.

The Roadrunners added two more in the third after back-to-back walks to Roundtree and Nishikida started the inning.  Tara Mickelson (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) hit a rare two-run sacrifice fly to center two batters later.

Lauren Hainlen (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.) led off the fourth with a base hit through the left side.  After two outs, Roundtree knocked Balogh out of the game with a triple to left.  Nishikida greeted reliever Liz Kramer with an RBI single up the middle as Metro State took a 6-0 lead.

Metro State put together a two-out rally in the sixth to finish off the win.  After two quick outs started the inning, five straight batters reached, highlighted by a three-run double by Mickelson and an RBI double by Jessica Haab (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek H.S.).

Game Two
A pair of defensive mistakes in the first two innings cost Metro State in game two.  Starter Julia Diehl (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge H.S.) struck out the side, but a throwing error by the catcher allowed a run to score from third with two outs as Mines took a 1-0 lead.

The Orediggers added another unearned run in the second on a muffed throw by Metro State's shortstop.

The Roadrunners would tie the game in the top of the third on a two-run home run by Nishikida, scoring Roundtree.

But the Orediggers scored in the bottom of the sixth after a one-out single, a stolen base, and a two-out RBI single by Macy Jones.

Metro State managed just a two-out walk in the top of the seventh.

Diehl suffered the tough loss, allowing one earned run in six innings, while tying a season-high with eight strikeouts.

Metro State will host UC-Colorado Springs for a four-game series next weekend, beginning on Saturday at noon.
