DENVER -
Metro State was awarded a 2-0 victory on Sunday evening over UC-Colorado Springs following a controversial finish with the Mountain Lions early in the afternoon. Metro State led 2-0 heading into the seventh inning before a snowstorm hit. The end result was a 4-4 tie after play was stopped for the final time, but Metro State had not completed its final at bat and had the winning run on second base with nobody out. The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference does not use a "halted game" rule, meaning it was a "called game" and the final score reverted back to the last completed inning.

The RMAC does not allow games to be made up or finished after teams clear the field. NCAA and RMAC rules state that a "called" game will revert to the last completed inning if a lead changes in an incomplete inning. However, rules also state that a "suspended" game will end as is. Since the game was not allowed to be finished, it was ruled a "called game."

Metro State's #Julia Diehl# and UCCS's Becca Smith endured a pitcher's duel through six innings.  The Roadrunners scored #Lauren Hainlen#'s leadoff walk in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by #Annalyse Garcia# for a 1-0 lead.

#Amber Roundtree# hit a one-out double in the fifth and scored on an error after #Molly Clark#'s single to stretch the lead to two.

Snow, sleet and rain began to pick up in the fifth inning and got heavy by the seventh inning as Diehl had set down eight batters in a row.

The conditions made pitching difficult as she walked her only batter of the game, hit her only batter in the game and allowed her only two wild pitches of the game in the top of the seventh as the Mountain Lions rallied for four runs.

Metro State led 2-1 with two outs and a runner on second when the umpires called a 30-minute delay. After play resumed, Diehl walked the first batter and then surrendered a three-run home run by Amanda Hathaway to give UCCS a 4-2 lead.

The Roadrunners answered right back.  #Danni Hedstrom# led off with a walk before Roundtree crushed a towering home run down the left field line to tie the game.  After Clark reached on a two-base error on a dropped popup, play was stopped for the final time due to the weather.

Statistics from the seventh inning do not count.

Game two was cancelled due to the snow.

Metro State will head to Kearney, Neb., to face Adams State and Western New Mexico next weekend.
