DENVER – Metro State rolled Colorado Mines twice on Saturday at home, winning 15-10 and 11-0. The first place Roadrunners improved to 27-12 overall and 23-11 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSM fell to 15-28 and 12-21. Mines entered Friday's game having won eight of its past 10 games.
Game One
Brennan Brown (Thornton, Colo./Legacy H.S.) belted two home runs in the first two innings, including a grand slam in the second, as his seven runs batted in led the team to a 15-10 victory.
Corey Collins (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) was roughed up for 15 hits, but went the distance to earn the win, improving to 6-2 this season.
Mines scored one in the top of the first, but Brown's three run blast down the left field line put the Roadrunners in front 3-1 in the bottom of the inning.
The Orediggers scored six in the top of the second, but Metro State matched that total in the bottom of the inning, scoring one on a single by
David Kaplan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty H.S.), another on a double by
David Fox (Lakewood, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) and four in Brown's grand slam to right.
#Zach Krueger hit a two-run home run in the third to push the lead to 11-7 and Metro State scored three more times in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run double by
Ty Jacobs (Denver/Cherokee Trail H.S.).
Krueger and Jacobs each had three hits and Brown and Kaplan each had two. Krueger also drove in four runs.
Game Two
Nate Van Bibber (Littleton, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) tossed his first career shutout, blanking the Orediggers on eight hits. He improved to 3-1.
The Senior Day lineup took a little while to give Van Bibber some support, finally pushing across the first run in the third on a single by Fox that scored Krueger.
Metro State scored two more times in the fourth.
Eric Lopez (Hayden, Ariz./Hayden H.S.) delivered an RBI single to right and Fox had a two-run double with two outs.
The Roadrunners broke it open with seven runs in the sixth on five hits. Krueger belted a three-run home run with nobody out. Fox had another RBI double, as did
Kevin Coughlin (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.).
Everett Altman (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) brought home the final run on a sacrifice fly.
Metro State will host Mines at noon on Sunday for a nine-inning game.
