Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

KEARNEY, Neb. -
The Metro State softball team won two games on Saturday via walk-off hits as the Roadrunners swept Western New Mexico 7-4 in 11 innings and 2-1 in Kearney, Neb.  The Roadrunners improved to 23-10 overall and 16-9 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while WNMU fell to 17-25 and 13-13.

Game One
Molly Clark (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood H.S.) blasted a three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning to give Metro State the 7-4 victory.  Clark got the chance to redeem herself after striking out with the winning run on third in the seventh inning.

Amber Roundtree (Lakewood, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) led off the top of the first with a home run to left-center.  Metro State took a 4-1 lead in the third on a three-run blast by Jennessa Tesone (Longmont, Colo./Niwot H.S.) to score Clark and Danni Hedstrom (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins H.S.).

The Mustangs tied it with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Metro State stranded a leadoff double in the sixth, runners on first and third with two outs in the seventh.  They also left runners on first and second in the ninth and 10th innings.

WNMU recorded two outs in the bottom of the 11th before Kasey Nichols (Springville, Calif./Porterville H.S.) and Roundtree singled to get to Clark for her walk-off.

Roundtree led the offense with three hits and Tesone, Hedstrom and Nichols each had two.

Julia Diehl (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge H.S.) came up three innings short of the school record, tossing all 11 for the win.  She allowed 10 hits and struck out five.

Game Two
Metro State again jumped on top in the first inning with a run as Molly Clark (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood H.S.) scored on an error.

Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) cruised in the circle for the Roadrunners, allowing just one run in the sixth inning.  She scattered six hits over seven innings for the win.

But the offense fizzled as Mustang pitcher Arriel Smith set down 15 of 16 batters before Lauren Hainlen (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.) led off the seventh with a single to right-center.  Pinch runner Kristen Gertner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) advanced to second on a single by Diehl.  After a fielder's choice moved Gertner to third, Caitlin Jenks (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) came through with a game-winning single to left field, her first hit of the season.  She entered the at bat 0-for-20 for the season.

Diehl was 3-for-3 at the plate in game two.

Metro State will face Adams State twice on Sunday.  Two wins will put Metro State back into a tie for first place in the RMAC as Colorado Mines finished its weekend with a 2-2 record.
