LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Metro State softball player
Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) tied two records on Friday as the Roadrunners fell 12-11 to St. Cloud State (Minn.) and 11-3 in six innings to Montana State-Billings at the Desert Stinger Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev. The Roadrunners fell to 2-7 on the season.
Tillery went 3-for-4 with three home runs and eight runs batted in, tying school records for home runs and RBIs in a game. It was the fifth time a Metro State softball player has hit three home runs in a game. Her RBI record tied a record set by Nancy Kogle in 1990 when she drove in eight runs against Colorado Mines on April 18.
In the one-run loss to SCSU, Metro fell behind 9-4 after four inning, but rallied to take the lead in the seventh inning. Tillery hit three-run home runs in the third inning and fifth inning, and he two-run shot in the seventh put Metro ahead 11-9, following
Kasey Nichols (Springville, Calif./Porterville H.S.)' go-ahead RBI double that scored
Molly Clark (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood H.S.).
But the Huskies scored three more times in the bottom of the inning, stringing together three straight singles to win on Megan Lehnen's walk-off single with one out off
Jordyn Randolph (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) (0-4).
The loss overshadowed not only Tillery's big game, but
Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.)'s 2-for-3 performance as well.
The Roadrunners took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second against MSU-Billings.
Alyssa Carter (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) drove in the first with a bases-loaded single to right-center and Towner followed with a two-run single to center.
But that was it for Metro State, as the Roadrunners failed to get a hit in the final four innings. Meanwhile, the Yellowjackets scored seven times in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of three errors to hand
Brittany Moss (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) (0-3) the loss.
The Roadrunners will face Augustana (S.D.) and Sonoma State (Calif.) on Saturday.
