Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Metro State dropped two games on Saturday at the Desert Stinger Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., falling 8-5 to No. 8 Augustana (S.D.) and losing 8-7 on a walk-off home run to Sonoma State (Calif.). The Roadrunners fell to 2-9 on the season.
Game One
After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first,
Molly Clark (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood H.S.) belted a two-run home run to score leadoff hitter
Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) and cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Roadrunners led 5-4 after the second inning thanks to a pair of Augie errors in the bottom of the inning.
The Vikings tied the game in the fourth and took the lead with two in the fifth, while adding an insurance run in the seventh.
Metro had several opportunities to hold on to their early lead.
Sam Talmich (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) led off with a double in the third and
Amanda Taney (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) walked to put two on with no one out, but neither run was able to score. Again in the fourth, Metro had two runners on, this time with one out, but again failed to score.
The Roadrunners also stranded leadoff singles in the fifth and sixth.
Jordyn Randolph (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) (0-5) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.
Game Two
The Roadrunners fell behind 5-0 after four innings, but pushed five unearned runs across in the top of the fifth to tie it up.
Alyssa Carter (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) led off with a double to right and scored on a two-out error that allowed
Kasey Nichols (Springville, Calif./Porterville H.S.) to reach base. Then
Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.),
Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) and
Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) connected for three straight home runs to even the score at 5-5.
Brew struck again in the seventh, hitting a two-out, two-run home run for a 7-5 lead.
But SSU scored three times in the bottom of the seventh on three extra-base hits, winning the game on a walk-off home run to center by Ali Palermo.
Maul (2-1) suffered the loss.
Metro State will face University of Mary (N.D.) on Sunday.
