LAS VEGAS, Nev. -
Metro State hit two home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for an 11-10 win over University of Mary (N.D.) on Sunday on the final day of the Desert Stinger Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev. The Roadrunners improved to 3-9 on the season.

Trailing 10-8 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) led off with a home run to right-center and Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) followed with a homer down the left field line to tie the game with nobody out. Sam Talmich (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) was then hit by a pitch and eventually scored the winning run on a wild pitch with two outs.

The Roadrunners played from behind much of the game. They trailed 4-0 after the top of the second, but scored four times in the bottom of the inning to tie it up. Freshmen Alyssa Carter (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) and Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) came up with two-out hits, Carter driving in two with a single, and Towner following with a two-run homer.

Starter Jordyn Randolph (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) was chased in the third inning as Metro State gave up three more in the top of the third. A solo homer by Maul in the bottom of the inning helped trim the deficit.

The Marauders scored once in the fourth, but a two-out, two-run single by Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) in the bottom of the fourth made it a one-run game with Mary on top 8-7.

They again scored two in the top of the fifth, but Maul moved to pitcher and held Mary scoreless for the final 2 2/3 innings.

Metro pushed an unearned run across in the fifth, setting up the dramatic seventh inning.

Maul earned the win, improving to 3-1 this season, and allowed just one hit. At the plate, she was 2-for-4 with two solo home runs.

Towner and Brew also had two hits each.

Metro State will have its alumni game on Saturday before opening conference play at home on Feb. 25 against UC-Colorado Springs.
