DENVER - Regis University swept a non-conference doubleheader at Metro State on Sunday, winning 7-5 in game one and 4-0 in game two. The Rangers improved to 4-2 overall, while Metro State fell to 3-3.

Game One
The Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Daron Schulthies (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.) scored on a groundout by Robbie Nickels (Phoenix, Ariz./Horizon H.S.) with the bases loaded.

But Regis escaped the jam with no more damage and pushed single runs across in the fourth, fifth and sixth to lead 3-1.

Metro State came back with four in the bottom of the seventh to go ahead 5-3. Schulthies drove in Gavin Purvis (Albuquerque, N.M./Cibola H.S.) with a base hit to center with nobody out and three more scored with the aid of two Regis errors.

Freshman Mike Thill (Littleton, Colo./Columbine H.S.) relieved starter Justin Arceneaux (Chino, Calif./Don Antonio Lugo H.S.) to start the eighth and ran into control problems, walking three and allowing two hits as the Rangers scored four times for the final 7-5 margin.

Arceneaux earned a no-decision with three runs allowed and four strikeouts in seven innings. Schulthies and Ty Jacobs (Denver/Cherokee Trail H.S.) led the offense with two hits each.

Game Two
Mike McElreath shut down Metro, throwing a four-hit shutout with six strikeouts for the Rangers.

Regis scored two unearned runs in the second and scored two on a single by Ryan Eustice in the fourth.

The loss spoiled a strong outing by Patrick Gojan (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.), who allowed two earned runs in seven innings. He scattered four hits and walked one with five strikeouts.

Metro State opens Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Friday at home against Colorado Mesa at 3 p.m.
