TURLOCK, Calif. -
Metro State's softball team went 1-2 on Saturday at the Mizuno Best of the West Invitational, falling 4-1 to Humboldt State and 5-1 to Cal State Monterey Bay, before winning 6-3 over Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock, Calif. The Roadrunners are now 2-3 on the season.

Game One
The Roadrunners never led in the 4-1 loss, but played the Lumberjacks close for much of the game. Trailing 1-0 after surrendering a solo home run in the first, Metro tied the game in the third. Brittney Padilla (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central H.S.) hit a one-out double through the right side, and scored on Molly Clark (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood H.S.)'s single up the middle.

But the Lumberjacks scored once in the top of the fourth and twice in the fifth for the final 4-1 margin.

Padilla and Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) led the the Roadrunners with two hits each. Brittany Moss (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) (0-1) suffered the loss.

Game Two
Much like the Humboldt State game, the game remained close early on. The Otters scored an unearned run in the first.

Metro stranded a single runner in the second and two in the third, before finally pushing one across in the third. Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) led off with a walk and pinch runner Alyssa Carter (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) came home two batters later on a double down the left field line by Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.).

Metro put two more runners on in the third, but left both on base.

CSUMB scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth, two coming on pitcher Cori Reinhardt's triple, to lead 5-1.

The Roadrunners again left a runner on in the sixth and stranded two in the seventh.

Jordyn Randolph (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs in six innings.

Game Three
Metro State salvaged a win in the nightcap, putting together its best offensive game of the young season in the 6-3 victory, along with a strong pitching performance by Maul (2-0). The junior righthander allowed just one earned run in seven innings and struck out seven.

Metro jumped out on top in the top of the third. Padilla led off with a walk and scored on a two-out single to center by Kasey Nichols (Springville, Calif./Porterville H.S.), who was 3-for-3 in the game.

After the Warriors scored twice in the bottom of the third, Metro tied it back up in the top of the fourth. Tillery led off with a base hit and was moved around with some small ball, finally scoring on a wild pitch.

Freshman Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) belted a two-run home run with two outs in the sixth, giving the Roadrunners a 4-2 lead.

CSUS scored an unearned run in the bottom of the inning, but a two-run double by Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.) scored Nichols and Maul for a pair of insurance runs.

Metro State will wrap up its first weekend with a pair of games on Sunday.
