Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. - Metro State fell 17-4 at Colorado State-Pueblo on Sunday. The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 5-13 overall and 2-10 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSUP improved to 11-11 and 8-4.
Metro scored first with an RBI single by
Danny Miller (Denver/Denver Christian H.S.) that scored
Robbie Nickels (Phoenix, Ariz./Horizon H.S.) in the top of the second.
The ThunderWolves came back with three in the bottom of the inning.
Alex Schrupp (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) led off the fourth with a double and scored on a ground out by
Chris Spirek (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.).
But it was all CSUP after that as the ThunderWolves scored 12 runs of the next three innings to lead 15-2.
Metro put together a two-out rally in the seventh with four straight hits.
Ty Jacobs (Denver/Cherokee Trail H.S.) and
Darryl Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) started it off with back-to-back doubles. Nickels continued with a single and
Daron Schulthies (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.) doubled before
Forrest Carpenter (Longmont, Colo./Niwot H.S.) flew out to end the rally.
Ryan Hutchinson (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek H.S.) and Jacobs each threw a scoreless inning of relief.
Metro State will host Colorado Christian for a doubleheader on Friday.
