LAS VEGAS, N.M. -
Metro State split a doubleheader at New Mexico Highlands on Sunday, winning 3-0 before a 4-3 loss snapped a three-game winning streak. The Roadrunners are now 11-17 overall and 8-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while NMHU is 16-14 and 11-9.

Game One
Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) tossed a two-hit shutout in the 3-0 win, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Maul allowed just two walks and struck out four.

Brittney Padilla (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central H.S.) scored the first run of the game in the second, scoring when Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) reached on a two-out error.

Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.)'s two-run home run an inning later scored Maul and pushed the lead to 3-0.

The Roadrunners left 11 runners on base in the game, including the bases loaded in the first and fifth innings.

Game Two
Metro twice rallied from behind, but the Cowgirls pulled through in the bottom of the sixth for the deciding run.

NMHU took a 2-0 lead after the first. A leadoff double by Towner scored on a two-run double by Padilla in the top of the second to tie the game.

The Cowgirls took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second, but again Metro State rallied to tie the game. This time a two-out error allowed Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.) to reach base and she scored one batter later on a single by Kasey Nichols (Springville, Calif./Porterville H.S.) in the fifth.

But a one-out walk proved costly in the sixth as starter Jordyn Randolph (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) then allowed a double for the winning run.

Randolph allowed eight hits and seven walks in six innings for the loss.

Metro State will host Nebraska-Kearney on Wednesday at Auraria Field.
