DENVER -
The Metro State Roadrunners began a crucial four game series with the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers. The teams entered Saturday's double header separated by just one game in the RMAC standings.

Mines won both games Saturday, taking game one by a 4-1 final. The Orediggers rallied to take game two by a 9-5 tally in extra innings.

Game One
The Orediggers struck first. Sami Springer belted a two-run homer in the first inning that drove in Kamee Vessey. The home run was Springer's third of the season.

Mines added two runs an inning later to take a 4-0 lead against Roadrunners ace, Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.). However, Maul settled down and did not allow another run.

In the 4th inning, Metro fought back. Maul doubled . Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) picked up her 19th RBI with a single to drive in Maul.

The Roadrunners threatened with the bases loaded later in the frame. However, Mines starter Kelly Unkrich shut the door on the rally with a pop out to end the inning.

Unkrich struck out six while only surrendering one run en route to her ninth win of the season. The loss drops Maul's record to 11-6 on the season. She finished with three earned runs and five strike outs.

Game Two
After a scoreless first, the bats woke up for Metro. Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) knocked in two with a double in the second. Brittany Padilla and Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) scored to give the Roadrunners their first lead of the day.

Metro starter, Jordan Randolph found herself in a jam in the fourth. With one run already home, the Orediggers loaded the bases. Randolph forced a pop out to the pitcher to end the inning and escape the bind.

With two outs in their half of the fourth, the Roadrunners tagged Mines' starter Ashley Goletz. Tillery slugged her 17th homer of the season to lead all of Division II.

Following an Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.) single, Kasey Nichols (Springville, Calif./Porterville H.S.) launched her third bomb this spring. The long ball gave Metro a 5-1 lead.

A four run sixth inning tied the game for Mines. The Orediggers batted around and chased Randolph from the game. The score remained knotted through seven and forced extra innings.

In  the top of the eighth, the Orediggers erupted for four runs and sent 10 batters to the plate. Brittany Moss (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) stranded the bases loaded to give Metro a final shot.

Unkrich closed the door on the Roadrunners to earn her second win of the day and evened her record at 10-10.

Moss took the loss for the Roadrunners. Her record stands at 1-7 this spring.

These two teams clash again in another double header Sunday at Auraria Field beginning at 11  a.m.
