RAPID CITY, S.D. -
Metro State's softball team swept a doubleheader against Black Hills State (S.D.) on Sunday in Rapid City, S.D., winning 10-0 in six innings, and 7-4 in game two. The series was originally scheduled to be played in Spearfish, S.D., but snow during the week moved it to a neutral site.

The Roadrunners improved to 6-12 overall and 3-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while BHSU fell to 1-10 and 1-5 in its first season in the RMAC.

Game One
Junior Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) turned in the best performance of her career, blanking the Yellow Jackets for her second career shutout. Maul struck out a career-high 10 batters and allowed just four hits with no walks. None of the runners advanced past second base, including a leadoff double in the fifth.

Maul broke a scoreless game open in the fourth with a solo home run for the 1-0 lead.

A three-run blast by Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) in the fifth put Metro on top 4-0.

Kasey Nichols (Springville, Calif./Porterville H.S.) crushed a grand slam in the sixth, her first home run of the season, and Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.) ripped a two-run single for a six-run sixth inning.

Nichols, Maul and Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) each had two hits to lead the team offensively.

Game Two
Molly Clark (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood H.S.) led off the game with a double and scored on a two-out single by Tillery for a 1-0 lead.

Tied 1-1 in the top of the fourth, Maul led off with a single and back-to-back doubles by Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) and Garcia, along with a two-out single by Clark put Metro on top 4-1.

After the Yellow Jackets tied the game against starter Jordyn Randolph (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.), Maul again took over the circle for the final three innings. She allowed just one hit and struck out three to earn the win as the Roadrunners took a late lead.

Metro pushed three runs across in the top of the sixth. Amanda Taney (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) reached on an error to start the inning and scored one batter later on a double by Mariah Griego (Arvada, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.). Clark's single moved Griego to third and both runners scored on a single by Nichols for the 7-4 lead.

Clark and Tillery each had three hits and Garcia added two.

Metro State will host Colorado State-Pueblo for a four-game series beginning on Saturday at Auraria Field.
