Box Score DENVER - Colorado Mines scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning and went on to win 12-6 over Metro State in Denver on Friday. The Roadrunners fell to 4-7 overall and 1-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSM improved to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the RMAC.
The Orediggers connected for 16 hits, including 12 off starter
Justin Arceneaux (Chino, Calif./Don Antonio Lugo H.S.) in 4 2/3 innings.
Darryl Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) led Metro State with three hits.
Ty Jacobs (Denver/Cherokee Trail H.S.),
Daron Schulthies (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.),
Robbie Nickels (Phoenix, Ariz./Horizon H.S.),
Alex Schrupp (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) and
Gavin Purvis (Albuquerque, N.M./Cibola H.S.) each had two as the Roadrunners had 14 hits in the game.
But Mines took advantage of three Metro State errors to score three times in the fourth, five times in the fifth and three more times in the seventh.
Tanner Roth (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) came in with the bases loaded and nobody out in the seventh and allowed just one inherited runner to score. He finished with three shutout innings of relief and four strikeouts.
The two teams will play again in a doubleheader at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Auraria Field.
