Baseball: Schrupp and Schulthies homer in loss

DENVER -
Metro State fell 10-6 at Regis University on Sunday in the final game of a four-game series between the two schools in Denver. The Rangers won three of the four games to improve to 13-15 overall and 8-12 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while Metro fell to 9-17 and 6-14.

Metro jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Alex Schrupp (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) hit an RBI single and Darryl Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) ripped an RBI double to left.

Juniors Schrupp and Daron Schulthies (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.) each connected on two-run home runs during a four-run fifth inning as the Roadrunners took a 6-0 lead. It was the first home run of each player's career.

The Rangers came back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, including a three-run homer by Alex Haag. Another four-run inning in the seventh gave Regis a 9-6 lead and they added one more in the eighth.

Schrupp had three hits for Metro and Jeff Levett (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.), Baca and Schulthies each had two.

Ryan Hutchinson (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek H.S.) suffered the loss, allowing four runs in a third of an inning.

Metro State will host New Mexico Highlands for four games at Auraria Field, beginning with a single game on Thursday at 3 p.m.
