DENVER - Nebraska-Kearney connected for 12 hits, including five extra-base hits, to eliminated Metro State 8-3 on Friday from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament at Regis University. The Roadrunners ended their season at 26-27. UNK improved to 26-23 with the win, but was eliminated later in the day by Colorado Christian.
The Lopers struck first, putting together a two-out rally in the top of the first. Mallory Noakes reached on a single to right and was driven home by Ali Seberger's double.
Metro tied the game in the bottom of the second when
Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.) scored on a two-out error.
UNK broke through for four runs to take a 5-1 lead in the third, two coming on a home run by Sarah Rome. The Lopers added to the lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth to lead 7-1.
The Roadrunners left the bases loaded without scoring in the third and pushed a leadoff triple by
Molly Clark (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood H.S.) across in the fifth, but again left the bases loaded. Clark's run that scored on a single by
Kasey Nichols (Springville, Calif./Porterville H.S.) cut the deficit to 7-2.
Trailing 8-2, Metro scored one final run on a two-out double by Nichols in the sixth, bringing in Clark.
Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) suffered the loss, allowing 10 hits and five earned runs in just four innings.
Metro will say goodbye to two seniors from the season, Clark and Nichols.
