DURANGO, Colo. - Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) and
Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.) each had three hits in game one as Metro State split at Fort Lewis on Friday, winning 10-3 before fallling 11-3 in six innings in Durango, Colo. The Roadrunners are now 17-23 overall and 14-14 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while FLC is 22-17 and 20-10 in the RMAC.
Game One
Tillery and Garcia paved the way as the Roadrunners had 16 hits. Tillery was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four runs batted in and Garcia was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI.
The Roadrunners scored single runs in the first and second to lead 2-0.
Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) singled home Tillery with a two-out single to right in the first and Garcia led off the second with a home run to left-center.
FLC's Chelsea Rodriguez belted a two-run home run in the second to tie the game.
The score remained 2-2 until the top of the sixth when the Roadrunners scored four unearned runs.
Molly Clark (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood H.S.) and
Kasey Nichols (Springville, Calif./Porterville H.S.) delivered back-to-back two-run singles with two outs in the inning.
After the Skyhawks cut the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth, Tillery crushed a grand slam with two outs in the seventh to break the game open.
Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) struck out seven and allowed two earned runs on five hits for the win.
Game Two
Fort Lewis led 2-0 after the first inning. A one-out error led to a two-out RBI single by Tillery in the top of the second as Metro cut the deficit in half.
The Roadrunners tied the game in the fourth. Garcia led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.).
Fort Lewis gained control after that, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth and one more in the fifth for a 6-2 lead.
Metro scored another unearned run in the sixth, but five unearned runs for FLC handed the Skyhawks the game in the bottom of the inning. Destinee Herrera ended the game with a bases-clearing double.
Jordyn Randolph (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) was handed the loss, allowing six runs in four innings.
Brittany Moss (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) gave up all five unearned runs in 1 2/3 innings.
The two teams will play again on Saturday in Durango.
