Box Score DENVER - Abby Rolph (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.) scored a penalty kick at 84:35 to hand No. 18 Metro State a 2-1 win in a wild finish at rival Regis University on Friday afternoon. The Roadrunners improved to 8-0-3 overall and 6-0-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Rangers fell to 3-6-1 and 1-5-1.
Jordan Post (Spearfish, S.D./Spearfish H.S.) gave the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half, blasting a shot from 40 yards away. Rolph earned her RMAC-leading sixth assist of the season on the play.
The Roadrunners controlled play for much of the game, outshooting RU 13-8, including 10-3 in shots on goal.
Things got weird in the 82nd minute. Two balls ended up on the field and half of the Metro State defense guarded one ball and half guarded the other before Regis' C.C. Rinehart scored with one of the balls, heading in her own shot that hit off the crossbar.
Just three minutes later, the Roadrunners were awarded a penalty kick when
Karisa Price (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland H.S.) was tackled in the box with the ball. Rolph converted her ensuing penalty kick to give Metro State the win.
Karisa Fernandez (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake H.S.) made two saves to earn the win in goal for MSU Denver.
Metro State will host Colorado Mesa at noon on Sunday at Auraria Field.
