Women's Basketball: Metro State defeats Grand View 67-51 in exhibition play

Box Score DENVER- Metro State won its second exhibition game of the season on Saturday when it defeated Grand View (Iowa) 67-51 at Regis University. 

Metro State was led by Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) and Fawn Brady (Grand Junction, Colo./Grand Junction H.S.) with 11 points each.  Also scoring in double figures for the Roadrunners was Elena Velasquez (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia H.S.) with 10 points. 

In the first half, Metro State got off to a hot start as it scored the first five points of the game.  Grand View answered with four straight
points to cut the Roadrunner lead to only 1 point with 15:58 left in the half. 

That however, was the closest that Grand View would get throughout the remainder of the half as Metro State responded with another run to put the game out of reach throughout the rest of the half.

At the half, Metro State led Grand View 36-26.  Overall for the first half, Metro State shot 40.0 percent (14-for-35) from the field including 38.5 (5-of-13) percent from behind the arc. 

In the second half, Metro State was able to maintain a lead around 10 points until Grand View cut the Roadrunner lead to only 46-41 with 12:09 left in the game. 

Metro State responded by going on a 9-0 run to push the lead to 57-41 and never relinquished less than a 13 point led throughout the rest of the game in route to the 67-51 victory.

Overall for the game, Metro sate shot 40.9 percent (27-for-66) from the field and 33.3 percent (7-for-21) from behind the arc.  Metro State held Grand View to 38.8 percent (19-for-49) from the field for the game. 

Grand View was led by, Mika Rodewald with 15 points and Haleigh Biancalana with 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

Metro State will begin its regular season on Friday when it hosts Minnesota State-Mankato at 7 p.m. at home in the Metro State Classic.
