The Roadrunners scored twice in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from Mitch Gibbons (Franktown, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) and a double by Alex Schrupp (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.), but that was it for Metro State's offense.

After two quick outs following the walks, Gibbons reached on an error to score Paust and bring Darryl Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) to the plate as the tying run, but Baca grounded to first to end the game.

Eli Ford (Casper, Wyo./Kelly Walsh H.S.) did not allow a run in 1.2 innings of relief, striking out four.
