Box Score 2 PORTALES, N.M. - Metro State's baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon, falling 10-4 and 6-4 in Portales. The Roadrunners fell to 3-5 overall, while ENMU improved to 11-1.
Game One
Metro State led 1-0 after the top of the first thanks to a leadoff double by
Erik Cammall (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine H.S.).
But the Greyhounds scored twice in the bottom of the first and three times in the second for a 5-1 lead.
Reilly Mau (Longmont, Colo./Longmont H.S.) delivered a two-run double to score
Andrew Paust (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) and
Markie Ortivez (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.) in the fourth, cutting the lead to 5-3, but ENMU got both those runs back in the bottom of the inning.
Cammall drove in Paust with a single in the sixth, but Eastern New Mexico put the game away with three in the bottom of the inning.
Justin Arceneaux (Chino, Calif./Don Antonio Lugo H.S.) (0-2) suffered the loss for the Roadrunners, lasting four innings and allowing six earned runs.
Game Two
Despite a two-run double by
Zac Baldini (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain H.S.) in the first inning, things looked to start the same as game one as MSU quickly fell behind 5-2 after the second inning.
However, a two-out, two-run home run by freshman
Andrew Paust (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) cut the deficit to 5-4 in the top of the third and the Roadrunners were within striking distance the rest of the game.
The Greyhounds added an unearned run off starter
Mike Thill (Littleton, Colo./Columbine H.S.) in the fourth and that was it for scoring in the game.
Thill (2-1) settled down after the second, posting a final line of four innings, with four strikeouts and four earned runs allowed. Reliever
Kevin Hand (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.) tossed a pair of scoreless innings.
The two teams will play a nine-inning game in Portales on Sunday at noon.
