Softball: Timely hits lead to road victory for Metro State

Box Score DENVER - Metro State took advantage of three errors and used timely hitting for a 6-3 win at Regis University on Sunday. The Roadrunners improved to 3-2 overall on the season, while RU fell to 0-5.

Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) went 3-for-4 at the plate and had an RBI double to lead the offense. Hailey Eisenhauer (Windsor, Calif./Cardinal Newman H.S.) earned the win in the circle, allowing two earned runs in 4.2 innings. Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) earned the save with 2.1 perfect innings of relief. She struck out three.

Regis struck first, taking advantage of a misplaced fall in left field in the bottom of the first inning to push across an unearned run against Eisenhauer.

It was Metro State's turn to take advantage of errors in the next half-inning, using two Rangers errors to score four unearned runs. Amanda Taney (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) hit a sacrifice fly and Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) delivered a two-out, run-scoring single to highlight the inning.

Regis cut the lead to 4-3 in the third with a pair of two-out runs.

After Oury reached on a two-out error in the fourth, Tillery drove her in with a double to center, giving MSU a 5-3 lead.

The Rangers put runners on first and third with two outs in the fifth when Maul came in to shut the door. She retired all seven batters she faced.

Meanwhile, Metro State added to its lead when Dani Sandel (Omaha, Neb./Westside H.S.) drove in Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.), who led off the seventh with a walk.

MSU will play in the Desert Stinger Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., next weekend.
