Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Metro State's softball team split two games on Friday at the Desert Stinger tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., winning 12-11 over Western Oregon, before falling 8-1 to West Texas A&M in five innings. The Roadrunners are now 4-3 on the season.
Game One
Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double and five runs batted in to carry the offensive against WOU.
Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) also went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, while
Dani Sandel (Omaha, Neb./Westside H.S.) was 4-for-4 with four runs scored.
Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) also provided a pair of hits.
Brew hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the first for an early 3-0 lead. WOU put seven runs across over the next two innings to lead 7-3 heading into the bottom of the third, but Sandel's leadoff single led to an unearned run after a pair of errors as MSU started to creep back into the game.
Trailing 9-4 in the fourth, Tillery ripped a two-run triple with one out and Brew followed with her second homer of the game to cut the deficit to 9-8.
Down 10-8 in the fifth, Metro State scored four unearned runs to lead 12-10.
Brittany Moss (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) allowed one run in the sixth, but pitched a scoreless seventh to secure the win. She allowed six earned runs in seven innings.
Game Two
The Lady Buffs jumped all over the Roadrunners, leading 4-0 after three innings. A single up the middle by
Stephanie Dunham (Rio Rancho, N.M./Rio Rancho H.S.) scored
Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.) to cut into the deficit in the fourth, but WTAMU pushed five across in the bottom of the inning to secure the mercy-rule win.
