Softball: Oury's record-breaking game leads offensive outburst

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Metro State split two softball games on Saturday at the Desert Stinger tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., falling 10-2 in six innings to Azusa Pacific, before an offensive outburst led to a 17-10 win over Montana State-Billings led by a record-breaking night by shortstop Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.).

Game One
Metro State scored its only two runs in the top of the sixth on a two-out, two-run double by Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.), who drove in Oury and Dani Sandel (Omaha, Neb./Westside H.S.).

Oury led the team with two hits.

Brittany Moss (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) suffered the loss, allowing eight earned runs in 5.1 innings.

Game Two
Oury went 4-for-5 with five runs batted in, four runs scored, three doubles and a home run, breaking the school record for doubles in a game. She led an offensive output that came just two hits shy of the school record as the Roadrunners connected for 23 hits.

The top three hitters in the batting order--Oury, Sandel and Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.)--each had four hits. Tillery was 4-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored. Sandel went 4-for-6 with three runs and two RBIs. Sandel and Oury each tied the school record for at bats in a single game.

Garcia and Brittney Padilla (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central H.S.) also each had three hits and Amanda Taney (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) had two.

Tillery's RBI double in the top of the first inning started a two-run inning as Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) also delivered an RBI single.

Trailing 3-2, MSU scored three times in the second behind a double by Sandel and singles from Tillery and Garcia.

A two-run single in the third highlighted a five-run inning as Metro State took a 10-4 lead.

The lead stretched more in the fourth after solo home runs from Stephanie Dunham (Rio Rancho, N.M./Rio Rancho H.S.) and Oury.

Padilla's RBI single in the fifth put the Roadrunners ahead 13-4, but a six-run inning brought the Yellow Jackets within 13-10.

Oury led off the sixth with a double and scored on a single by Tillery and Metro State put the game away with three runs on a bases-loaded double by Oury in the seventh.

Hailey Eisenhauer (Windsor, Calif./Cardinal Newman H.S.) earned the win, pitching four innings and allowing four earned runs. Moss pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.

Metro State will wrap up its weekend on Sunday against Central Washington.
