Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M. - Patrick Gojan (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.) fired his second consecutive nine-inning complete game as Metro State handed New Mexico Highlands a 6-2 loss, its first loss in conference play. The Roadrunners improved to 6-10 overall and 2-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Cowboys fell to 12-6 and 8-1.
Gojan allowed one earned run in nine innings, scattering nine baserunners and needing 113 pitches to finish the game.
Erik Cammall (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine H.S.) and
Alex Schrupp (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) each drove in two runs and Schrupp,
Mitch Gibbons (Franktown, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) and
Jeff Levett (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.) each connected for two hits.
MSU Denver struck first in the fourth inning after a leadoff single by Gibbons.
After the Cowboys scored once in the bottom of the inning and again in the fifth, it was all Roadrunners from there.
A leadoff triple by Gibbons followed by a walk to
Jacob Nelson (Lakewood, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) in the sixth led to a two-run inning.
Darryl Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) drove in Gibbons with a sacrifice fly and Schrupp doubled home Nelson for the game-winning run.
Metro State added three more in the top of the ninth with the help of an RBI double down the left field line by Levett and a two-run single by Cammall.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
