Softball: Moss pitches Roadrunners to split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENVER - Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) connected for seven hits as Metro State split two softball games on Saturday at home, winning 8-1 over Regis before falling 13-10 to No. 12 Colorado Mines. The Roadrunners are now 7-12 overall.

Game One vs. Regis
Brittany Moss (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) allowed no earned runs in seven innings, limiting the Rangers to one unearned run and six hits. She did not walk a batter and struck out three.

Offensively, Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) hit her first home run of the season and drove in three runs with two hits. Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) went 4-for-4. Brandi Roundtree (Lakewood, Colo./Soroco H.S.) and Oury also had three hits each.

MSU Denver scored three runs in the bottom of the first, two coming on Tillery's home run to right field, and another on a single by Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.) after Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) doubled to left.

Oury drove in Roundtree with a double in the second for a 4-0 lead after two innings.

Back-to-back doubles by Tillery and Brew after a two-out error in the sixth helped for a four-run inning.

Game Two vs. Colorado Mines
The Roadrunners had their bats going, but the defense and pitching cost them against the Orediggers. Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) went 4-for-4 at the plate and Stephanie Dunham (Rio Rancho, N.M./Rio Rancho H.S.) was 3-for-5 with a home run and five runs batted in. Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.) and Amanda Taney (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) each had two hits as well.

A two-run single by Dunham helped MSU Denver to a 4-3 lead after the first inning.

Trailing 12-4, a two-run homer by Dunham kept the game alive in the fifth inning, preventing the eight-run mercy rule.

Metro State trailed 13-6 going into the bottom of the seventh, but a four-run inning nearly brought the Roadrunners back. Dunham, Taney, Oury and Dani Sandel (Omaha, Neb./Westside H.S.) each had RBI singles in the inning.

Metro State will host Colorado Mines and Regis again on Sunday at 10 a.m.
