Box Score 2 DENVER - Monique Hernandez (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas H.S.) threw a six-hitter as Metro State split with Western New Mexico at home, winning 3-1 and falling 5-4 on Friday. MSU Denver is now 10-17 overall and 3-12 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while WNMU is now 13-18 and 10-10.
Game One
Hernandez allowed just one run and walked one in seven innings to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) put the Roadrunners in front 2-0 in the bottom of the first with her second home run of the season, driving in
Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.).
Oury later scored on an error for a 3-0 lead after three innings.
The Mustangs scored their run in the top of the seventh after a leadoff double and left two runners on base to end the game.
Game Two
Metro State led 1-0 after two innings after doubles by
Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) and
Amanda Taney (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.).
After the Mustangs came back with three runs in the third, MSU Denver had four straight batters reach base in the fourth to tie the game 3-3. Towner and Taney singled and
Brandi Roundtree (Lakewood, Colo./Soroco H.S.) walked before a two-run single by Oury.
Towner put the Roadrunners in front 5-4 with a leadoff home run to left in the sixth, but WNMU scored twice in the seventh to win the game.
Both teams meet for a doubleheader at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
