Box Score DENVER - Metro State never trailed Tuesday night as it defeated Colorado Mines 75-55 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Quarterfinals to advance to the RMAC Shootout semifinals. The win increased Metro State's record to 20-8 overall. The loss dropped Colorado Mines to 15-14 as its season ended with the loss.
Metro State was led by 18 points from
Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) and 16 points from
Emily Wood (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.).
Kya DeGarmo (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado H.S.) added nine off the bench.
Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) added eight.
Cassie Lambrecht (Colorado Springs/Golden H.S.) and
Brandi Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) led the team with six rebounds each.
In the first half, Metro State came out strong as it led 7-0 at the 18:11 mark. Mines was able to battle back as it was able to tie the game up at 7-7 with 14:07 left in the half. It was all Metro State after that point as it outscored the Orediggers 36-17 the rest of the half for a 43-24 lead. The Roadrunners shot 54.8 percent on 17-of-31 shooting including 4-for-6 from three point range.
In the second half, Metro State continued its strong performance as it never led by less than 18 points throughout the rest of the game. MSU Denver outscored Mines 15-1 on points off turnovers and 10-0 on fastbreak points, controlling the tempo throughout.
Overall for the game Metro State shot 49.2 percent on 29-of-59 shooting including 5-for-11 from behind the arc. Metro State won the rebounding margin 37-33 and assists 16-6.
The Roadrunners committed a season-low seven turnovers.
Colorado Mines was led by Courtney Gallo with 19 points.
Metro State will be back in action on Friday night when it plays in the semifinals vs. the winner of UC-Colorado Springs and Colorado Christian.
