Baseball: Gojan pitches MSU Denver to split with ASU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENVER - Patrick Gojan (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.) threw a nine-inning complete game in game one as Metro State split a baseball doubleheader on Friday at home, winning 8-2 in game one and falling 4-2 in game two to Adams State. The Roadrunners are now 5-10 overall and 1-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while ASU is 2-14 and 1-5.

Game One
Gojan (2-2) scattered seven hits and allowed just two runs with one walk and one strikeout. He did not allow an extra-base hit.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, MSU Denver scored three times, using RBI doubles by Sean Reeves (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) and Forrest Carpenter (Longmont, Colo./Niwot H.S.) in the inning.

The Roadrunners scored four times in the fourth to lead 7-1. Reeves drove in Mitch Gibbons (Franktown, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) with a sacrifice fly and Erik Cammall (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine H.S.) ripped a run-scoring double down the right field line. The Roadrunners also scored twice on balk calls.

Metro State added its final run in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk to Carpenter.

Alex Schrupp (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) led MSU Denver with two hits.

Game Two
Control problems plagued Metro State starter Mike Thill (Littleton, Colo./Columbine H.S.) (2-3) early as he walked seven batters in the first three innings. He minimized the damage, however, as the Roadrunners trailed just 3-2 after three innings.

Schrupp delivered a sacrifice fly in the first and third innings to provide the Roadrunners with both of their runs in the game.

Carlos Luzon (Caracas, Venezuela/U.E. Instituto Escuela), Kevin Hand (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.) and Eli Ford (Casper, Wyo./Kelly Walsh H.S.) combined for 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Both teams are set to meet for a doubleheader at Auraria Field on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
