Softball: UCCS earns tripleheader sweep with walk-off single

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 COLORADO SPRINGS – Metro State's softball team dropped a tripleheader at UC-Colorado Springs on Friday, falling 11-4, 10-2 (five innings) and 8-7 on a walk-off single. The Roadrunners fell to 6-11 overall and 0-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while UCCS improved to 12-7-1 and 7-3.

Game One
Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) and Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) both homered in the loss, but the Roadrunners gave up eight runs in the first two innings to fall 11-4.

Oury was 2-for-4 with a double to lead off the game and a solo shot in the third. Brew delivered a two-run homer, also in the third inning. She also had a double in the sixth.

Game Two
A nine-run first inning for the Mountain Lions doomed MSU Denver in the 10-2 five-inning loss.

Doubles by Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.) and Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) provided the Roadrunners with a run in the second and Dani Sandel (Omaha, Neb./Westside H.S.) hit a solo home run in the third.

Game Three
An error in the second inning proved costly for the Roadrunners, leading to four unearned runs in the one-run loss. It was MSU Denver's only error in the three-game series.

Garcia hit a two-run double in the first and Oury had an RBI single in the second for an early 3-0 lead.

After the error put UCCS in front 4-3, the Roadrunners took a 6-4 lead with three in the third coming on a three-run homer to left by Towner.

A sacrifice fly by Stephanie Dunham (Rio Rancho, N.M./Rio Rancho H.S.) put Metro State up 7-5 in the fifth, but a two-run, pinch-hit double in the sixth by Dani Fonseca and a walk-off single by Allie Corids in the seventh gave the Mountain Lions the sweep.

Garcia had three hits for Metro State and Oury, Dunham, Towner and Amanda Taney (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) each had two.

The two teams are scheduled for a single game on Saturday at 11 a.m.
