Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Metro State's comeback came up just short as the Roadrunners fell 53-48 to Colorado Christian on Friday night in the semifinals of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament in Grand Junction, Colo. The Roadrunners fell to 20-9 overall, while CCU improved to 18-10. MSU Denver had won the previous three meetings this season between the two schools.
Metro State trailed by 18 points with 16 minutes left, but cut the deficit to two points in the final minute and had a 3-point shot in the final seconds to tie the game. A 14-3 run over 5:30 cut the CCU lead to 45-40 with 8:24 to go in the game.
Emily Wood (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.)'s layup with 54 seconds left cut the deficit to 50-48. After the Cougars made 1-of-2 at the line,
Brandi Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer with one second remaining. B.J. Moyes hit two free throws with one second left to seal the win for CCU.
Jenessa Burke (Aurora, Colo./Highlands Ranch H.S.) came off the bench for MSU Denver to scored 13 of her 17 points in the second half, hitting 8-of-14 from the floor and grabbing nine rebounds.
Cassie Lambrecht (Colorado Springs/Golden H.S.) scored 10 points for the Roadrunners, who were ice cold shooting ,connecting on just 31.3 percent of their shots and 1-of-19 (.053) from the outside.
Mariah Metoyer led the Cougars with 14 points.
Metro State will find out its first round NCAA tournament opponent on Sunday at 8 p.m. on NCAA.com. The Roadrunners are seeking their third consecutive postseason appearance under third-year head coach
