Baseball: CMU takes advantage of errors to sweep Metro State

Box Score DENVER - No. 7 Colorado Mesa took advantage of six Metro State errors to earn a 16-3 win to earn a series sweep over the Roadrunners on Sunday. CMU improved to 30-6 overall and 24-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while MSU Denver fell to 13-20 and 9-15.

The Mavericks led 5-0 after two innings and 8-1 after four, chasing Metro State starter Nick Hammett (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield H.S.) after 3.1 innings. Hammett allowed five earned runs and struck out six.

Tanner Roth (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) provided 3.2 strong innings of relief, limiting CMU to one unearned run with two hits and two strikeouts.

Jacob Nelson (Lakewood, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) hit a solo home run to right field to lead off the fourth.

The Roadrunners added their other two runs in the sixth inning, scoring Nelson on a bases-loaded single by Danny Miller (Denver/Denver Christian H.S.) with nobody out and with Alex Schrupp (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) coming home on a sacrifice fly by Darryl Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.).

Schrupp and Nelson each had three hits as the Roadrunners left 12 runners on base.

Metro State hosts Colorado State-Pueblo next weekend.
