Softball: Towner's home runs lead Metro State to split with Adams State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENVER - Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) hit two home runs on Sunday as Metro State split a softball doubleheader with Adams State, winning 7-6 before a 4-2 loss in game two at Auraria Field. MSU Denver is now 13-24 overall and 6-19 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while ASU is 15-13 and 14-9.

Game One
Amanda Taney (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the second with a single to score Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.).

A two-run home run by Towner and an RBI double by Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) in the fourth gave the Roadrunners a 4-2 lead.

Trailing 6-4 in the sixth, MSU Denver scored three times to take the lead. Taney drove in the first run with a single up the middle. Dani Sandel (Omaha, Neb./Westside H.S.) tied the game with a double to left-center to score Taney and the Roadrunners won the game on Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.)'s double through the left side.

Monique Hernandez (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas H.S.) (6-6) earned the win, pitching all seven innings. She pitched around a single and a walk in the seventh.

Game Two
Towner provided the only offense for the Roadrunners in game two, giving them a 2-1 lead in the fourth with a home run that scored Garcia.

Brittany Moss (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) took the loss, allowing three earned runs in seven innings.

The Grizzlies broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh to win the game.

Metro State will play at New Mexico Highlands next weekend.
