Vlahos and Cromwell named RMAC Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS-
Gabriel Vlahos (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio de Santa Ines) and Cara Cromwell (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) were named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Week on Wednesday.  It was the second time this year that both Vlahos and Cromwell received the award.  Vlahos received the award on Feb. 20th while Cromwell received the award on April 3rd.

Vlahos went 3-0 last week at No. 1 singles.  He posted a 6-1, 6-0 win against Colorado Christian's Chris Flathers, a 6-1, 7-5 win against McKay Inman of Hastings, and against Alex Lesiuk from CSU-Pueblo, he won 7-6 (6-4), 6-0.

In doubles play, along with teammate Adrien Delvaux (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound H.S.), he went 3-0 in No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 victory against Flathers and teammate Taylor Bryan.  The duo won 8-2 against Inman and Joe Ritz of Hastings and came back from a deficit to win 8-5 against CSU-Pueblo's tandem of Lesiuk and Saul Shrom.  Vlahos clinched the victory with an ace to earn the final point of the match.

The men's tennis team will play on Friday at 11 a.m. in Grand Junction for the RMAC Quarterfinals against Colorado State-Pueblo.


Cromwell went 3-0 at No. 1 Singles. Against Colorado Christian, she defeated Kara Williams 6-0, 6-3.  Against Ellie Clinch of Hastings, she won 6-1, 6-0, and against Teresa Haro from CSU-Pueblo, Cromwell won 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles play, along with teammate Alicia Holm (Las Vegas, Nev./Green Valley H.S.), Cromwell went 3-0 in No. 1 Doubles. Against Colorado Christian the pairing won 8-4 versus Elizabeth Vertin and Katy Balli.  Against Clinch and Alexis Parade of Hastings, they won 8-1, and against CSU-Pueblo's Katherine Howe and Gia Montoya, they won 8-5.

The women's tennis team will play on Friday at 2 p.m. in Grand Junction for the RMAC Semifinals against the winner of Colorado Mesa and Colorado Christian.
