Baseball: Metro State swept by CSU-Pueblo

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENVER - Colorado State-Pueblo earned a sweep at Metro State on Saturday, winning 10-1 and 8-5 at Auraria Field. MSU Denver fell to 13-22 overall, while CSUP improved to 21-16.

Game One
Jeremiah Struble tossed a gem for the ThunderWolves, striking out nine Roadrunners over seven innings.

CSUP scored single runs in the first, second and fourth, scored twice in the sixth, and broke the game open with four in the seventh. The ThunderWolves added another in the eighth.

Metro State had six hits in the game, including five doubles. Chris Spirek (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.)'s pinch-hit double in the seventh inning drove in Alex Schrupp (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) for MSU Denver's only run.

Game Two
CSU-Pueblo led 5-1 after the top of the third, taking advantage of three early errors by the Roadrunners.

Metro State scored a run in the second on a single to left by Darryl Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) and added one in the third on a double by Jeff Levett (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.).

Jacob Nelson (Lakewood, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.)'s RBI single up the middle with two outs in the fifth kept the margin of deficit at three runs as the Roadrunners trailed 6-3.

Two runs by the ThunderWolves in the top of the seventh gave them an 8-3 lead, but Andrew Paust (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.)'s pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the inning made the final score of 8-5.

Justin Arceneaux (Chino, Calif./Don Antonio Lugo H.S.) allowed three earned runs over six innings.

The two teams will play a doubleheader at Auraria Field on Sunday at noon.
