Tennis: Women's tennis team earns bronze in RMAC Tournament and men earn fourth place

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO.-  The women's tennis team defeated Colorado State-Pueblo to earn 3rd place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday.  The men's tennis team fell to Montana State-Billings to earn 4th place.

Women:
The women's tennis team defeated CSU-Pueblo 5-0 on Sunday to earn bronze in the RMAC Tournament.

In doubles action, Metro State won all three matches to take a 3-0 lead.  In No. 1 doubles the pairing of Cara Cromwell (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.)/Alicia Holm (Las Vegas, Nev./Green Valley H.S.) won 8-1.  In No. 2 doubles, Sam Schall (Glendale, Ariz./Cactus H.S.)/Marianne Evangelista (Brighton, Colo./Brighton Charter School) won 8-2 and in No. 3 doubles Nikki Amos (Colorado Springs, Colo./Rampart H.S.)/Nicole Herrmann (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Anchieta School) won 8-2.

In singles, only two more victories were needed for the Roadrunners to earn the bronze and got those two points with victories from Cromwell and Evangelista. 

Cromwell won No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-3 for her 13th No. 1 singles victory as a freshman which moves her into 2nd place all time in Metro State history trailing only her coach Beck Meares who won 14 No. 1 singles matches as a freshman.  Evangelista won the final match 6-4, 6-2 to give her 51st career victory in singles which is good for 3rd place in Metro State history.

Throughout the season, several Roadrunners moved themselves up the record books in Metro State history including Cromwell and Evangelista.  Cromwell won the 2nd most matches in No. 1 singles play in Metro State history.

Holm ended her career in 6th place in Metro State history with her 33 career No. 1 doubles victories.  Holm also finished in 14th place in most career doubles victories.

Evangelista ended her career in 3rd place in most singles victories ever as well as 3rd place in most doubles victories.  Evangelista also finished in 15th place in best singles winning percentage and 15th place in best doubles winning percentage.

Amos ended her career in 8th place on the all time singles victories list and 11th place in the all time doubles victories list and 14th on the best doubles career winning percentage list.

Herrmann ended her career in 6th place on the all time singles victories list, tied for 4th on the most doubles victory list and 12th place in best doubles winning percentage.

Schall ended her career tied for 4th on the most doubles wins list.


The women's tennis team ended their season with a 14-14 record.


Men:
The men's tennis team fell to Montana State-Billings 5-1 on Sunday to earn 4th place in the RMAC Tournament.

The only point that the Roadrunners were able to earn was off Nick Baker (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit West H.S.)'s 6-3, 6-3 No. 3 singles victory.

While the Roadrunners were not able to end their season with a win they did have a strong season as several members of the team had career years.

Gabriel Vlahos (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio de Santa Ines) ended his career in 7th place in Metro State history on the most career victories in No. 1 doubles.

Adrien Delvaux (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound H.S.) ended the season tied for 13th on the most career doubles victories list.


The men's tennis team ended their season with a 12-16 record.
