Baseball: Nelson goes deep twice to lead Roadrunners to win at ASU

Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. - Jacob Nelson (Lakewood, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) belted two home runs and Patrick Gojan (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.) turned in one of his most dominant outings of the season as Metro State earned a 7-2 at Adams State on Friday afternoon. The Roadrunners improved to 15-23 overall and 11-18 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, extending their lead over the Grizzlies for the final spot in the RMAC tournament. ASU fell to 10-32 and 9-22.

Nelson's first home run put MSU Denver up 3-2 in the fifth inning, overcoming a 2-1 deficit. His two-run shot to right field also scored Erik Cammall (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine H.S.).

His second home run was a three-run blast to left field in the seventh inning, scoring Cammall and Jeff Levett (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.) for a 6-2 lead.

Levett added a solo home run in the ninth and hit two hits in the game, as did Darryl Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) and Mitch Gibbons (Franktown, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.). Nelson was 3-for-5 at the plate.

Gojan (4-4) allowed just one earned run in seven innings and struck out five batters, the most against a conference opponent for him this season. He also scattered seven hits and walked two.

Both teams will play a doubleheader in Alamosa on Saturday at noon.
