Softball: Five-run fourth leads Metro State to win over Black Hills State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENVER - Metro State scored five runs in the fourth inning of Game Two to split with Black Hills State on Saturday at home, falling 14-6 in Game One before a 6-4 victory in the second game. The Roadrunners are now 15-28 overall and 8-23 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while BHSU is 5-29 and 4-22.

Saturday was Metro State's TEAL game, a fundraiser for Ovarian Cancer in honor of teammate Aubree Maul (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) who is battling cancer.

Game One
MSU Denver led the Yellow Jackets 6-3 after four innings, but BHSU tied it up in the fifth and took advantage of four Metro State errors in a six-run sixth inning.

Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the third, the Roadrunners tied it up after Amanda Taney (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) and Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) led off the inning with a single and a double. Three straight singles with one out in the fourth helped  Metro State to a three-run inning to lead 6-3 before BHSU rallied.

Taney, Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.) and Stephanie Dunham (Rio Rancho, N.M./Rio Rancho H.S.) each had two hits.

Game Two
Metro State again trailed 3-1 to the Yellow Jackets, but a five-run fourth inning gave the Roadrunners the win.

Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) belted a one-out home run to center field. Oury tied the game with a two-out double before Dani Sandel (Omaha, Neb./Westside H.S.) drove in two with a single. Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) capped the inning with a double down the left field line to drive in Sandel.

Meanwhile Brittany Moss (Northglenn, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) turned in a solid outing in the circle, allowing just one earned run in seven innings.

Offensively, Oury and Taney each had two hits.

The two teams will wrap up the season on Sunday with a doubleheader at 11 a.m. at Auraria Field.
