Box Score 2 LAKEWOOD, COLO.- Metro State won both games against Colorado Christian on Saturday afternoon improving its record to 13-16 on the season and 9-11 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. The losses dropped the Cougars to 4-27 overall and 3-19 in the RMAC.
Game One:
Metro State defeated Colorado Christian 3-1 in the opening game on Saturday afternoon.
Nick Hammett (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield H.S.) earned the victory for the Roadrunners after pitching a complete nine inning game giving up only five hits and one run while striking out a season high eight batters.
Metro State got the scoring going early as it scored all three of its runs in the top of the first inning to give Hammett a lead to work with throughout the game.
Jacob Nelson (Lakewood, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) got the scoring for the Roadrunners when he singled to left field scoring
Erik Cammall (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine H.S.).
Later in the inning
Andrew Paust (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) hit a 2-run RBI double scoring Nelson and
Zac Baldini (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain H.S.) to give the Roadrunners a 3-0 advantage.
Colorado Christian finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 6th inning when Mosler scored off Jones' single to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Metro State was able to maintain the lead behind a solid defensive effort and solid pitching from Hammett who struck out five batters after the 6th inning in route to a 3-1 victory.
Game Two:
In the second game of the day, Metro State defeated Colorado Christian 10-5 to take 3-of-4 games from the Cougars in Lakewood.
The Cougars started the game off strong as they scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the 1st inning when Wenzel homered to left field.
Metro State responded in the top of the 2nd inning by scoring five runs to take the lead 5-1.
Danny Miller (Denver/Denver Christian H.S.) scored the first run for the Roadrunners when he scored from 2nd base on Paust's double to right center field. Paust scored later in the inning on Cammall's single to right field to give the Roadrunners a 2-1 lead.
Markie Ortivez (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.) scored another run for the Roadrunners on an error by the Cougars to increase the lead to 3-1.
Jeff Levett (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.) and Cammall scored the final two runs of the inning on Nelson's 2-run RBI single.
The Roadrunners added another three runs in the top of the 3rd inning to increase their lead to 8-1.
Reilly Mau (Longmont, Colo./Longmont H.S.) scored the first run of the inning on a single up the middle from Levett. Levett scored on the next batter when Nelson's single up the middle. Nelson scored the final run of the inning on Baldini's single to center field.
In the bottom of the 4th inning Colorado Christian added run to cut the deficit to 8-2 in favor of the Roadrunners.
In the top of the 5th inning, Metro State Baldini hit a 2-run home run to left field scoring
Alex Schrupp (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) in the process to give the Roadrunners a 10-2 lead.
Throughout the rest of the game, the Roadrunners were able to hold only allowing the Cougars to score three more runs as Metro State won 10-5.
Metro State will be back in action on Wednesday when the Roadrunners travel to Greeley to take on Northern Colorado at 3 p.m.
