DENVER- Metro State women's tennis fell to Western New Mexico 5-4 and the men's tennis team fell 9-0 on Friday afternoon.
Women:
The women's tennis team fell to Western New Mexico 5-4 in the battle of the two highest ranked teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 10-13 on the season and 3-1 in RMAC competition. The win increased the Mustangs record to 7-15 overall and 2-0 in the RMAC.
The match was closely contested as three different matches came down to the final sets.
In doubles competition Metro State was able to take 2-of-3 sets from the Mustangs as Metro State won No. 2 Doubles and No. 3 Doubles. The team of

Marianne Evangelista (Brighton, Colo./Brighton Charter School) earned the victory in No. 2 Doubles as they defeated their opponents 8-6. In No. 3 Doubles the team of
Nicole Herrmann (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Anchieta School)/
Nikki Amos (Colorado Springs, Colo./Rampart H.S.) defeated their opponents 8-5. The only loss in doubles action was in No. 1 Doubles where the team of
Cara Cromwell (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.)/
Alicia Holm (Las Vegas, Nev./Green Valley H.S.) was unable to pull off the upset as they fell 9-8 (3).
In singles action the Mustangs were able to take 4-of-6 matches to clinch the victory for Western New Mexico.
Metro State was able to take No. 5 Singles as Herrmann won her match 7-5, 6-0 and Schall winning 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3) in No. 6 Singles. In No. 4 Singles, Amos was unable to earn the victory despite taking her opponent to a third set in the 1-6, 6-3, 4-6 loss.
The women's tennis team will be back in action on Friday when the Roadrunners host Colorado Christian at Gates Tennis Club at 1 p.m.
Men:
The men's tennis team fell to No. 33 Western New Mexico on Friday afternoon 9-0. Metro State was unable to win a match against the Mustangs despite strong efforts from several Roadrunners.
The team of
Gabriel Vlahos (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio de Santa Ines)/
Adrien Delvaux (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound H.S.) took the region's No. 8 ranked doubles team in No. 1 Doubles play to the end as the Roadrunners eventually fell 9-8 (1). Also in No. 2 Singles play Delvaux played very well before eventually losing 7-6 (6), 6-2. In No. 5 Singles
Alec Parmenter (Phoenix/Sunnyslope H.S.) took his opponent to a third set before falling.
Metro State will be back in action on Friday when the Roadrunners host Colorado Christian at Gates Tennis Club at 1 p.m.
