Box Score 2 CHADRON, NEB.- Metro State softball fell to Chadron State 4-2 and Fort Lewis 11-10 on Saturday. The losses dropped Metro State to 12-19 on the season and 5-14 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Game One:
Metro State fell to Chadron State 4-2 on Saturday morning in Nebraska. Metro State got on the board first in the top of the 3rd inning when
Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) hit a RBI double scoring reigning RMAC Player of the Week
Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) to give the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles responded in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Ritzen hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Marino to tie the game at 1-1.
Chadron added three more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to take a 4-1 lead after Eatmon, Knudsen, and Wetsch all scored for the Eagles.
Metro State added another run in the top of the5th inning to cut the lead to 4-2 in favor of Chadron when Towner hit a solo home run.
The Roadrunners were unable to score any more runs over the next three innings as they fell to Chadron State 4-2 in the first game of the day.
Game Two:
Despite scoring nine runs in the top of the 4th inning, Metro State fell to Fort Lewis 11-10 in Nebraska.
Fort Lewis started the game off strong as it scored four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Skyhawks scored three runs off a bases loaded double from Rios and then added another when Thomp singled scoring Rios to give Fort Lewis a 4-0 lead.
The Skyhawks added another run in both the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd inning to increase their lead to 6-0 after three innings.
In the top of the 4th inning Metro State was able to take the lead as the Roadrunners scored nine runs to take a 9-6 lead. Towner got the scoring started when she hit her second home run of the day scoring
Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.) in the process.
Dani Sandel (Omaha, Neb./Westside H.S.) then helped the Roadrunners add another two runs when she singled scoring
Amanda Taney (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) and
Stephanie Dunham (Rio Rancho, N.M./Rio Rancho H.S.).
Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) added to the Roadrunners scoring when she hit a 3-run home run scoring Sandel and Oury to give the Roadrunners a 7-6 lead. On the very next batter,
Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) hit a solo home run to increase the lead to 8-6. Later in the inning
Brandi Roundtree (Lakewood, Colo./Soroco H.S.) singled scoring Towner to give the Roadrunners a 9-6 advantage.
The Skyhawks cut into the lead in the bottom of the 4th inning when Rodr hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 9-7 in favor of the Roadrunners.
In the bottom of the 5th inning Fort Lewis scored three runs to take a 10-9 advantage off a single by Fundor and a double later in the inning by Harm.
Metro State responded in the top of the 6th inning when Dunham hit a solo home run to tie the game at 10-10.
Unfortunately in the bottom of the 7th inning Fort Lewis scored the winning run when Fundor scored on an error after Rodr doubled advancing her to third base.
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Saturday when they face Fort Lewis at 12 p.m. in Chadron and then face Chadron at 2 p.m.
