Box Score 2 CHADRON, NEB.- Metro State fell to Fort Lewis and Chadron State for the second day in a row on Sunday falling to the Skyhawks 5-3 and the Eagles 7-6. The losses dropped the Roadrunners to 12-21 on the season and 5-16 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Game One (Fort Lewis):
The Roadrunners fell to the Skyhawks 5-3 on Sunday afternoon in Nebraska.
Fort Lewis came out of the gate strong scoring two runs in the top of the 1st inning. Rodr and Bend scored on Bolyar's single to left field with two outs to give the Skyhawks a 2-0 lead after the top of the 1st inning.
The Roadrunners responded by scoring two runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st inning when
Annalyse Garcia (Frederick, Colo./Frederick H.S.) hit a 2-run single scoring
Kelsey Tillery (Windsor, Colo./Windsor H.S.) and
Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.). After one inning the score was tied 2-2.
In the top of the 2nd inning Fort Lewis was able to take the lead when Stuar hit a solo home run to give the Skyhawks a 3-2 lead.
Metro State answered in the bottom of the 5th inning when
Dani Sandel (Omaha, Neb./Westside H.S.) hit a solo home run to center field to tie the game back up at 3-3.
The Skyhawks were able to score the final runs of the game in the top of the 6th inning when Rodr hit s 2-run home run to give the Skyhawks the 5-3 advantage.
Game Two (Chadron State):
Metro State fell to Chadron State 7-6 on Sunday despite a valiant comeback effort when the Roadrunners scored five runs in the top of the 5th inning to get back into the game.
Chadron got off to an early lead when the Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning off singles from both Schartz and Wetsch that scored runs. After the first inning Chadron was up 2-0.
In the top of the 3rd inning Sandel hit a sacrifice fly ball down the right field line to score Oury from 3rd base to get the Roadrunners on the board.
However, in the bottom of the 3rd inning the Eagles managed to score four runs to take a 6-1 lead. The Eagles scored on a grand slam from Knudsen to push the lead.
The Roadrunners were able to rally in the top of the 5th inning by scoring five runs to tie the game up at 6-6. Sandel got the scoring going for the Roadrunners when she singled with the bases loaded to score
Stephanie Dunham (Rio Rancho, N.M./Rio Rancho H.S.). Two batters later
Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.) singled scoring Oury and
Brandi Roundtree (Lakewood, Colo./Soroco H.S.) to cut the lead to 6-4. On the very next batter, Sandel scored from third on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to one run. Later in the at bat Garcia singled to right field scoring Brew to tie the game at 6-6.
Unfortunately for the Roadrunners they were unable to score another run to take the lead and the Eagles were able to win the game in the bottom of the 7th inning when Schartz hit a solo home run to end the game at 7-6.
Metro State will be back in action on Saturday when the Roadrunners host the Grizzlies of Adams State in a double header beginning at 12 p.m. at Auraria Field.
